Since the SysML has been developed by an open source project, and includes an open source license for its distribution and use, others can freely modify, use and redistribute the SysML specification as long as they follow the conditions in the license. For example, the OMG adopted a variation of the SysML open source specification that they trademarked as "OMG SysML."
